Here is one of the reels I recently created and posted that hit over 10k views in 24 hours. What has been working for me? Below the video, I am going to share with you my tricks to get over 10k views on reels! https://www.instagram.com/reel/CiuyOl2AiQs/
Disclaimer: These tricks have been working for me as of late. The algorithm is constantly changing so be cognizant of what works for you and what doesn’t and feel free to change things up and experiment!
My Content Tricks that Gets more Views on Reels
There are 3 types of content that you should be aiming to create: Entertain, Inspire, and Educate. Make sure that your videos are relevant to viewers using one of those and it will create a desire to follow for more.
Video content doesn’t have to be complicated. Some ideas for content could be a photo slideshow, tips for a particular event, POV ride clip, quick character meet and greet clip, even something from your stories!
Video Quality
My degree from college is in Video so I’ve found that my skills from that have helped me a lot in creating reels. Let’s get into my tips for how your video should look and how to create engaging video.
- High-quality video is a must. A DSLR isn’t necessary, in fact, few people on Instagram truly appreciate the beauty of the video from various lenses. With technology how it is today, a phone camera can take clear video that is high enough quality for Instagram that viewers will love. With my iPhone, I always try to use the 4k video setting.
- Here’s a pro tip: Make sure to wipe off the phone camera lens before using it! It’ll really clear up the picture.
- Make sure the video fits the full 9×16 screen. You want the video to fill on the space on someone’s phone. You can stretch video or photos to fit in editing apps such as CapCut.
Editing
- Try to use shorter clips. Attention spans are very short these days. Make sure your video clips are no longer than 5 seconds unless otherwise warranted like it fits the music or has a lot of movement. I know its difficult to cut video that you love, but you’ll find that cutting your video up will end up making the story flow better.
To help with this process, watch the video over and over and over again. You’ll begin to find yourself wanting to skip through some parts and see what should be cut out or shorten. However, if you are still struggling, have others watch it and tell you their thoughts on what they think you should change. - You only have 1-2 seconds to keep a person watching your video so make it interesting and engaging! A good way to accomplish this is by using transitions. I use an app (CapCut) to edit my phone videos that has several types of transitions to use between clips. Even better, you can create your own using trending transitions you find from others!
- Find ideas and transitions from other reels and make them your own! I search through reels on Instagram to find trends and trending audio to get inspiration for my videos.
- Finally, try to make your videos shorter than 10 seconds when possible. Shorter videos are doing better on Instagram’s algorithm and to be honest, I don’t think that is going anywhere.
How to get Over 10k Views on Reels
USE TRENDING AUDIO! As you are watching reels, you’ll know an audio is trending when it has a little upward arrow icon near the music name. When you click on that audio, you will be directed to a page that shows how many times its been used and in what videos. The lower the number the better because that means you are going to be one of the first few to use it as its a new trend. I love to use trending audio that has less than 15-20k uses.
Tell a Story
Finally, tell a story. With my video production background, this naturally comes to mind for me when creating a video but not to everyone which is why I wanted to share this tip with you. You can get the edge on other reels when you think of it as a mini movie or series. Not everyone will have the knowledge of what you are sharing, yes, even of Disney, but if you can make it a story that has a beginning, middle and end, then anyone could understand and connect with it.
Take an example of my edit video I shared of the Ghost at the Haunted Mansion. https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cix2NzTA4Yw/
I recently tested out to see if my caption would be enough to add some context but unfortunately that wasn’t enough and it didn’t do very well. It would have helped if I would have made it more obvious as to where we were and who it was in the video prior to my edit reveal.
My other mistake is that the trending audio I used had previously been used by 65k other reels. The chances of being viewed using that audio at that point was much lower.
Hope These Help!
These are just a few of my tips. I hope they help you as I want everyone to succeed! A big part of success these days is collaboration. We all need to work together and we can grow together too. There are billions of users on these apps such as Instagram and they follow more than 1 account, we should never feel competitive with one another. Let me know in the comments if they have worked or improved your analytics! Make sure to subscribe to my blog for more in depth articles and content and check out more that I’ve shared here!
